La Roxay brings together community through hosting events that
center the Latinx identity. These events create a much needed
space for the celebration of Latinx culture. Every event I've been to
is full of life. Roxay and her team are unapologetically radical in the
way they create community and who they create it for. Working on
events is empowering and fun - there was always good food at
meetings and laughs. I always look forward for the next innovative
event they are going to produce and get so much FOMO now that I
left Seattle.
Roxay breathes community! Since meeting her I have been
nothing but inspired by the work she does. As a community
organizer myself she has set the standard of how this work can be
impactful, meaningful, fun and inclusive to a variety of mediums
and types of artists. I have recently started a fashion arts magazine
and she was at the top of my list to include her voice in the
dialogue of whats going on in Seattle's art scene. Not only doe she
have incredible insight into the needs of our community but actively
creates opportunities where those gaps exist. From supporting
vendors, small businesses, Djs, artists, dancers, performers and
so much more there is a vision from this woman that will not be
stopped.
I've collaborated with Roxana on multiple branding related projects. From Bidi Bidi Bom Bash to La Dulzura, Roxana has always given me the creative reigns when coming up with the artist direction of her event's online presence. Her messaging towards marginalized communities is always priority and that's definitely my favorite take away from continuing to work alongside Roxana.
It is always a transformational experience to work with Roxana. There is a consistent centering of authenticity, creativity and humanity when she is on a project. Her ability to engage multiple perspectives and allow space for expression is a natural skill, one which is balanced with a high level of attention to detail.
"
Roxana's work ethic, passion and love for community truly shine when she's putting events together which is evident in how well the events ALWAYS turn out. She has a wide range of experience in successfully fundraising (Bidi Bidi Bom Bash) facilitating workshops (Anti Racist Workshops) and hosting parties (Cumbiaton West Coast Connect). I am always inspired and excited to see what she will be doing next because everything she has done has always been inclusive to BIPOC folx. The work she's doing is important and she sets an example of what great Leaders should be doing in their own communities. "
I have had the pleasure of working with Roxana and have seen what a big impact she has had on student and their families. Roxana has a way of connecting with people from any background and is able to provide a warm, positive, uplifting experience for them. She seeks the wants and needs of the community/population she is working with and is able to provide educational knowledge and awareness. She has presented her workshops to student’s I previously worked with and provided education on PNW Latinos (Brown and Down). Roxana is able to capture the interest of an audience and really get them engaged. The youth loved her presentation and always requested her to return as no one had really taught them this information. She is an inspiration to those around her and the community she serves.
It all makes sense at LRP. To be queer, to be Latinx, to be undocumented, and to be mujer. I can get down, shake my booty, and I can also be critical and thoughtful of the world we live in. I can love my community and I can question it. All my identities and personas are allowed to be present at once . My friends and I are grateful for that.
I respect and admire the way Roxana models the the meaning of building and organizing community. I’ve witnessed her determination to show-up in moments of need, but also the ability to create moments that bring collective joy and healing to our communities.
I feel blessed to have met this dope Xingona. I don't know where to start. Roxana does it all. From providing spaces for community voices to be heard, connecting families to resources, facilitating network meetings, creating opportunities to support local artists and DJ's as well as food vendors, building authentic workshops, and so so much more. This fearless leader has done it all and continues to challenge herself to find ways for communities of color to have a seat at the table. What is most commendable is how she is able to bring her whole true self to the work that she does and always honoring the communities that loved her and made her who she is. You a real one girl and I see you. My Islanders community sees you and I respect all that you have done and all that you will soon come to do because I know you just getting started.
"I met Roxay at bidi bidi bash 2019 i was one of vendors and i tell you she has been amazing ever since. I have been a vendor at several events she's hosted and she literally has the best personality ever. She's always super supportive and her energy is out if this world. I could tell from my first encounter that she was an
AH-MAZING person. I kno that shes going to continue to do great things. "
Everything Roxana does, is done with heart and grace. Her events are not only really fun, but also very healing. A true ancestral blessing.
